Following the rules of a dog park are really
just common sense. I find it hard to believe that
I need even write an article about Dog Parks. All
parks should be for dogs to run have fun and be with
responsible pet owners.
Nowadays, we are delegated to Parks just
for the dogs and then we have people even abusing that
privilege. Taking your dog to the Dog Park should
be an interactive experience for you and your dog. Don’t
come to a dog park to read a book, catch up on some sleep,
or God forbid, leave and come back after an hour or so. People
are there to have fun with their dogs watching them interact
and playing, they are not there to watch your dog. Take
them to Doggie Day Care and pay someone to do that for
you!
Don’t let your scary uncivilized dog come to the
Dog Park and bully the nice dogs there either. If
you have not done your job socializing your dog, or if
you have adopted a dog that has no social skills, throwing
them into a Dog Park will not do the job and you risk
harming the other dogs and people there. Seek out
a dog training professional, preferably one who practices
positive training and behavior modification methods and
see if you can bring your Anti-social or a-social dog
around. If not take your dog to other areas or
to the Dog Park when no one else is around.
Let people
know who come that your dog is not social and ask if
they can wait for a little while your dog gets some exercise. Other
owners will be very happy to let you have some time rather
than risking a traumatic dog fight.
Enjoy your Dog Parks. Remember communities don’t
have to have Dog Parks and if abused, they will be taken
away.
